The Chardi Kala Project in the Schools

Since 2019 Chardi Kala has reached over 1000 Whatcom County students.

Sikh children face a higher risk for being bullied in school and while playing with others because of the Sikh practice.

To help the broader community not to fear turbans, our teachers and ragi muscians visit local schools. We talk with elementary students about the turban and show how we put it on. We play the harmonium and tablas for the students to enjoy.

With high school and college students, we talk about hate crimes, how they can get involved in learning about new immigrant cultures, and how they can advocate for justice.
